PTLB Preview: Lamont Peterson vs Dierry Jean, Jamell Charlo vs Gabriel Rosado

On the grind back to the top of contention is D.C’s own Lamont Peterson (31-2-1) the home fighter coming off a 3rd round knockout loss to Lucas Matthysse last May. Peterson is left with little room for error because across the ring will be the young and hungry Dierry Jean (25-0), the Haitian born Junior Welterweight fighting out of Montreal. Jean is coming off a stunning 4 round K.O. of the slick and crafty “Mookie” Cleotis Pendarvis.

Lamont Peterson vs Dierry Jean, Jamell Charlo vs Gabriel Rosado

For Dierry Jean this will be his biggest test yet to date under the big lights in Petersen’s backyard at the D.C Amory Center. Peterson, whose only losses are to Timothy Bradley and Lucas Matthyse, is no stranger to big fights against top competition, with wins over Amir Khan (split decision), Kendall Holt (8th round TKO), Victor Manuel Cayo (12th round stoppage), and a majority draw against Victor Ortiz. This might be a career defining fight for both the battle-tested Peterson and the something-to-prove Jean with the Junior Welterweight division full of good fighters and big paydays.

On the undercard is a pretty good scrap featuring Junior Middleweights: Gabriel Rosado (21-7) and Jermell Charlo (22-0). Rosado is moving back down to 154lbs to face a young, game Jermell Charlo out of that great stable of fighters under Ronnie Shields in Houston Texas. Rosado the resilient Philadelphia fighter is coming off a loss to Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin in a close fight that was stopped in the 10th after a nasty gash opened up on Rosado in the 9th. Before that fight was a controversial No Contest with J’Leon Love and the stoppage loss to Gennady Golovkin last January.

For Charlo, the undefeated 23 year old, he is getting a chance to advance his name in the world of the sweet science. This is a big opportunity for him to make a claim at being the one everybody better watch out for. For him to be successful and pull off a win against Rosado it’s going to take a lot of heart and determination because Rosado is fighter with a lot of pride and not in the least bit considered “easy work” at all.

Final Words

Charlo will have to out box Rosado to state his claim because from the start look for Rosado to be aggressive as a guy who has been in the square with some big punchers like Gennady Golovkin, Peter Quillin, and Alfredo Angulo. This should be another fascinating event put together by Golden Boy Promotions. Read more helpful post.
